Neil’s musical
career started at the age of 12 when he started guitar lessons.
Later
studying the flute/clarinet/saxophone/mandolin/Irish tenor banjo/5
string banjo/Irish whistle
and has been awarded Diplomas for Performance and Composition.
Performing many
contrasting styles – Jazz, Folk, Concert Band, Theatre Orchestras….
Neil developed his musical skill and shared the stage and music
workshops with musicians
such as :
Don Lusher - Herbie
Flowers - John Harle - Jack Brymer - Kenny Baker
And played in bands
supporting artists such as :
Eric Bogle - Vin
Garbutt
at venues ranging
from :
The Jam House,
Birmingham – Alexander’s Bar, Chester – The Limelight Club, Crewe
–
The Musician, Leicester – The Robin Hood Bay Folk Club - Liverpool
Philharmonic Hall.
Neil is a busy
instrumental music tutor and part-time lecturer teaching guitar for
Lancashire and Morecambe College.
Composition is an
important part of Neil’s musical interest - writing vocal and guitar
pieces –
he continues to work with numerous vocalists and
instrumentalists.
In 2005 Neil
was invited to write and perform a piece for a wedding in New York –
this trip culminated in a number of gigs in North Carolina in Cecil
Sharp country.
One of Neil's collaborations was selected for the final of a
national UK song writing competition in 2007.
