Bludshot: Alternative Funk In Hip Hop Form

It has taken Bludshot over two years to write, perform, and record his highly anticipated new album, Another Day. Fortunately, it only takes one listen to realize that it has been well worth the wait.

With each of the album's sixteen tracks, Bludshot repeatedly shows us why he is not your average hip-hop artist. He blends elements of funk, hip-hop, rock, and soul as if they were always meant to be together, and the end result is so infectious that you'll find yourself wondering why someone hasn't done this already. His sound has been described as a cross between Outkast, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Twista, but this is one of those rare cases where an artist can be recognized for a style that is uniquely his own.

When asked about his inspiration, Bludshot cites a wide variety of influences. He appreciates the classic rock sounds of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles, just as much as he enjoys the soulfulness of Al Green, Sly and the Family Stone, and Bob Marley. He worships at the throne of old school hip-hop artists like Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Pharcyde, and A Tribe Called Quest, but also praises the work of current acts like Snoop Dogg, Outkast, Incubus, and Black Eyed Peas. All of this comes through in his own music, as he takes the best elements of numerous genres and weaves them together into a remarkably smooth sound.

Supported by a remarkable live band that includes James Pierce (backup vocals), Tiphanie Gist (backup vocals), Cornell Pearce (guitar), Clarence Chandler (bass), and Demetrius Beynum (drums), Bludshot has rapidly built up a strong local following throughout Virginia, filling venues to capacity on a regular basis.

R-H Brings Variety Of Sounds Together On Black Asia Volume One

With his debut electronica album, Black Asia Volume 1, Rajesh Hardwani (a.k.a. r-H) has taken one big step toward reaching the goals he has set for himself, which include remixing for established artists worldwide and making a living through his music.

Using an astounding variety of instrumentation, r-H aims to show you how Thai, Japanese, and Indian grooves and chants sound when layered over break beat and drum and bass. Thanks to the performance and production expertise he has accumulated over the years, the album is more polished and accessible than his previous works, which is a good thing, because this is music that truly needs to be heard. "'Excited' would be an understatement." This is how r-H responds when asked how he feels about Black Asia Volume 1. "I believe this is the true, all-around Asian electronic music album, and I can't wait for the industry to have a listen."

And he isn't going to just sit back and wait to be noticed. In addition to promoting Black Asia Volume 1, r-H is already hard at work on Black Asia Volume 2. He is also remixing for the R.I.P. Family, a rap and hip-hop crew out of Jacksonville, Florida, and Vandal, a rap and hip-hop artist from Toronto, Canada. r-H also recently had his track "Tim Sum Vindaloo" featured on the Asian Underground compilation, Asian Beat Bazaar, released by Virgin Records UK.

Arms Of Kismet Set To Release "Cutting Room Rug" CD

If Arms of Kismet's 2004 debut, Eponymous, was a heartfelt affirmation, the forthcoming Cutting Room Rug (April 29) is its prankster twin, fusing parodic rants with tragic laments in a playful cocktail of satire and sincerity. From the mischievous "Clover" to the ominous "Coil," the new CD is a dark joyride, careening from track to track like a condemned man in a funhouse. Its inhabitants can only cry at weddings, can only laugh at funerals.

Fans of postmodern popsters like Beck, The Flaming Lips, and The Postal Service will find a kindred spirit in Arms of Kismet. Cutting Room Rug forsakes pimpin' and rides for pointed salvos wrapped as sweet confections. Split into three "acts," it attacks with guitars, hooks, and dancebeats, wooing the listener with sugary, stuck-in-your-head melodies and fractured lyrics. The format recalls The Firesign Theatre and The Who Sell Out, veering between spiritual yearning and crass commercialism, compelling passers-by to forget their troubles and "spin the wheel." It sketches a perilous, chaotic world begging for a skip and a chuckle.

Cutting Room Rug was written and produced by Mark Doyon, mastered by Jon Astley (Tori Amos, George Harrison, Pete Townshend), and released by independent label Wampus Multimedia. Guests include Kowtow Popof ("Life Imitates"), Janna Audey ("Coil"), Eamon Loftus ("Auriculara [Listen to Me]"), Scott Goodrick ("Clarendon"), and Paul Golder ("Auriculara [Listen to Me]").

Angela Correa "Correatown" CD Release

"Correatown" is the first album by Angela Correa to be released on Bed Pan Records, a tiny independent label in San Diego. Initially, the songs were meant to be a humble little demo of one-takes, Angela just playing and singing a natural performance. However, after listening to the songs, producer Gregory Page (Jason Mraz, Tom Brosseau) decided to paint in a little color between the spaces of music and lyrics Angela had created. Most of the songs chosen for the album were actually the first take. The result is a collection of songs that are intimate and sincere, yet texturally loose and organic.

Haunting, genuine, beautiful and sparse are words most often used to describe the music of Angela Correa. Currently based in Southern California, Angela is originally from a small town in Northern California. Her music skirts genres, an amalgam of early American folk, country blues with a certain lo-fi indie rock temperament. Influenced as much by Elizabeth Cotten, Bessie Smith and Jack Elliot as the likes of Beat Happening, PJ Harvey and Neil Young, Angela flirts with traditional folk by telling rich stories brought to life with real melodies, distinctive arrangement and contemporary topics. She is both literate and whimsical, and the nuance and subtlety of her voice is what most intrigues listeners.

Finespun Takes National Radio By Storm!

The problem with the music industry is that there are not enough bands like Finespun. These four gentlemen exploit every possible opportunity that comes their way. They are beginning to see the fruits of their own efforts. Finespun is currently involved with a major commercial radio campaign.

The band is taking a stab at a six-week campaign solely funded on their own dollar. Demonstrating not only faith in their own project but a true understanding of what it takes to develop their careers. The campaign is proving successful as the boys are currently being spun nationally. Their radio campaign is reaching stations from the East coast to the West coast and in between. Finespun will again capitalize on opportunities by touring in support of their radio success.

They are regulars at clubs in the northeast such as Arlene's Grocery, The Alphabet Lounge, The Downtown and Acme. Along with landing themselves opening spots for Gilby Clarke (formerly of Guns 'N Roses), The London Quireboys, Hookah Brown (Black Crowe's) and Kings X. While on tour, they have played clubs from New York to Austin and in between. In addition, they have received invitations to both SXSW and 2NMC. Because of this exposure and their continued popularity, Coca-Cola's New Music Awards (2002) have chosen them as one of the top fifty bands in the country.

Award-Winning Reporter Sings A Different Tune

She racked up Emmy Awards and recognition nationwide. But for Houston television reporter Eileen Faxas, something was always missing. So she dumped her day job to devote herself to her true love: singing and songwriting.

Her debut CD "Dance Cry Swing" is already getting airplay on major Houston radio stations and selling in stores in Houston, Miami and online. The first single is a sexy bilingual dance song called "Take A Chance" that recalls the sound of the Miami Sound Machine in its heyday.

Born in Miami and raised on a diet of American, Latin and World music, the Cuban-American songwriter lets her roots show... making her debut CD a bilingual journey from powerful ballads to Latin-infused pop and jazz to all-out Salsa jams.

Album producer Dan Workman, who's worked with top artists like Destiny's Child and ZZ Top, called Eileen "one of the most natural songwriters I've ever met", and industry website GarageBand.com named her Spanish release "Vivelo" a Track of the Week.

Artist Of The Month Flags Big Year For Allison Crowe

Collected Sounds, the Minneapolis, U.S.-based guide to women in music, has made Allison Crowe its Featured Artist this month. Collected Sounds profiles such well-known-and-loved acts as Madonna, Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, Tracy Chapman and Tanya Donelly, alongside worthy new artists. In spotlighting Allison, Collected Sounds' Producer Amy Lotsberg, (an early champion of such independent artists as Vienna Teng and Regina Spektor), says: "I figured she had some fun things going on and it was high time to call some more attention to her again".

In her review of Allison's latest CD, Lotsberg notes: "I've been an admirer and supporter of Allison Crowe since I reviewed her first EP, '6 Songs' in October of 2002. I was stunned then, as I am now. This incredible chill-inducing voice coming out of a young person is such a rare treat... This girl's the real deal."

Allison wrapped shooting of a live-in-the-studio concert to be released on DVD later this year. "Whether I'm Wrong", Crowe's potent song featured by the UNESCO-endorsed New Songs for Peace project, will be a single release to international television. Producer/Director Alex Postowoi, whose camera-work is primarily seen in a host of major motion pictures and television shows, has previously shot music videos for Bif Naked, Jann Arden and Joan Armatrading. The songs were recorded at Turtle Studios in White Rock, B.C. by Producer/Engineer Larry Anschell (K-os, Pearl Jam, Sarah McLachlan).

Pillow Talk: Custom Made To Awaken LA Hip Hop Scene With Upcoming Release

Fed up with unimaginative cookie cutter rap, the LA-based hip hop collective Custom Made is slated to release their latest CD, Pillow Talk, on June 2, 2005. Like LA State of Mind, the group's previous album, Pillow Talk showcases stylized rhyme schemes and musical backdrops that demonstrate the potential of LA hip hop beyond West Coast gangsta rap. With melodies composed of sweeping horns, groovy soul, and jazzy chords that fall that drizzling rain, Custom Made's Pillow Talk is a landscape of loungey beats against smooth poetics.

Merging east and west, Custom Made is composed of emcees that have seasoned themselves in fierce Los Angeles battle scene. The majority of Custom Made members hail from LA, with the exception of Queens, New York-native Aneek. The group's five original lyricists- Aneek, B-Love, Element, Sinister Six and Skandalous Scoobs - are all featured on Pillow Talk alongside some additional collaborators that include Mobb Deep, Lexus, Inspectah Deck, Jedi Mind Tricks, and Kool G Rap.

Royal Playboy Cartel Opens For Judas Priest And Robert Plant's Upcoming European Tour Dates

Royal Playboy Cartel has been added to two of Judas Priest's European tour dates and one of Robert Plant's dates in early April 2005. The first night of RPC's warm up will be Monday, April 6th at Katowice Spodek, Poland, where they are the only warm up band for Judas Priest's 8,000 person audience. Then they will make their way to the Czech Republic where they will be playing at Hala Rondo, again opening up for Judas Priest. The following night, RPC will be opening for Robert Plant at Czech Republic's Sazka Arena in front of approximately 16,000 people.

In the USA, Royal Playboy Cartel has played in most of NYC's most prestigious venues. They are the headlining band every year since 2001 at Visionfest, a NYC indie film festival. Four of their songs are in an independent film, "Xtacy" featured in the Sarasota Film Festival, Feb. 2005. They have recently been signed to new management, Hippotang Entertainment, and will be spending the majority of early 2005 playing local live shows and recording their debut album.

Ampcast Lives To Broadcast Birthday Party

Surviving the turmoil that killed most other on-line music distribution (OMD) sites, Ampcast continues to sign up independent performers and host their original material, much of it free to download. Ampcast dot com handles huge traffic for streaming, downloading and CD purchases of multi-genre independent music and spoken word product.

And, Ampcast dot com "radio" thrives, continuing as the Internet's major proving ground for independent broadcasting over the World Wide Web. The April weekend jamboree on the OMD's radio side will feature live personalities and Ampcast-generated material, along with talk shows and information about the groundbreaking web site for new listeners and veteran OMD patrons.

U.S. Indie Band & Film Expo To Be Held In Beaumont, Texas - August 19-23, 2005

The 2005 US Indie Band & Film Expo will take place in Beaumont, Texas from August 19-23, 2005 (setup and load-in is on August 18). More than 500 bands, filmmakers, and artists are expected to participate in what is expected to become the premier showcase for unsigned acts of all genres. Nearly 18,000 people are projected to attend the birth of one of the industry's most explosive annual events.

The five-day event will take place at the Fairpark Coliseum and Fairground, and nearby facilities and venues. There will be four outdoor music stages running continuously from 11:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m., and indoors, there will be a large screen to show projects in film, video, and animation. Additionally, each participant will have a booth promoting their goods or services, selling merchandise, meet-and-greets, etc. The US Indie Expo will also feature workshops, conferences, Q&A panel sessions, and seminars.

Because of so many entertainment industry expos and conferences today overcharging for participating in their events, many independent artists, bands, and filmmakers simply cannot participate because of the high costs involved. For this reason, many of tomorrow's talents are overlooked even without having a fair chance in the industry's competitive nature today. The creation of The US Indie Expo gives every deserving artist a chance to network with other artists, bands, industry professionals, and filmmakers from around the world. Together we can reshape the industry and create new opportunities for the future.

Ms. Cherry Brings The Noise And The Krunk

Cherries are one of those rare fruits that can be both sweet and tart. The same can be said for Ms. Cherry, the first lady of StreetWize Recordz. This petite cutie is sweet to look at, but don't get it twisted, Ms. Cherry can bring it like a pro. With her crunk energy, street rhymes, and determination to make it to the top, Ms. Cherry is about to change the female rap game.

Ms. Cherry has been doing her thing on stage for over six years. In Junior High she was winning school talent shows and impressing peers with her mature lyrics, and sense of style. After her classmates were tucked into bed, Ms. Cherry was out schooling adult competition, in nightclubs and artist showcases all over Atlanta. Her explosive energy, lyrics and ability to dominate the stage instantly appealed to audiences and Ms. Cherry won every competition she entered.

Never one to follow someone else's interpretation of her talent, Ms. Cherry was initially introduced to StreetWize Recordz execs four years ago as a vocalist, but knew she had the skills to be billed as the label's first female rap artist. Determined to prove herself, she quickly penned a couple of verses and slipped them in on a song she was asked to sing and the rest is history.

The crunk new single "It's Whatever", with its banging beat and Ms. Cherry's feisty lyrics, has clubs jumping all over the south. Confident in her ability to hold her own as an emcee, this multi-talented beauty isn't just another female relying on her sexuality to sell records; Ms. Cherry is the total package.

Jury Rejects Anti-Trust Allegations Against Clear Channel From Rival Promoter

A federal jury found that Clear Channel Communications Inc. did not violate antitrust laws in its competition with a rival promoter. The case was the first time a jury was able to examine such allegations against the company in thorough detail.

"This jury's decision that Clear Channel did not violate antitrust laws sends a powerful signal to those who seek to wrongfully accuse us in the future," said Andrew Levin, executive vice president and chief legal officer of Clear Channel Communications.

"We are, of course, disappointed that the jury agreed with Jam Sports' other claim and failed to see this case for what it actually was -- a disgruntled competitor that could not succeed in the marketplace and so took its case to a courtroom. We intend to vigorously appeal that decision and expect the appellate court to agree that Clear Channel's actions were within the law."

Record Labels Discover Cure For Singles Sales Slump

RavenWestGuitar.com Launches New RWG Guitar Line

RavenWestGuitar.com today announced the official launch of their new RWG brand line of guitars. Owner Eric Bergquist explains the concept behind the new line as "Giving guitarists a truly fantastic instrument without the need to mortgage their house to afford it!" Bergquist, who was previously involved in the successful Raven guitar company until it's demise following the untimely death of it's CEO, had seriously considered getting out of the guitar business. Phone calls, letters and e-mails soon made him change his mind.

"There was real customer disappointment and sadness when Raven closed it's doors," he said, " Raven owners were extremely loyal to the brand and have that sort of underground camaraderie that often develops when people realize something is so good and such a great deal, and that they're the first ones smart enough to have discovered it." Buyer review sites like HarmonyCentral.com are packed with glowing praise and high marks for the entire Raven line, and certainly bear out Bergquist's claims. Many believe that because of the quality of the guitars, Raven instruments are now close to achieving collector status.

After listening to former customers and consulting with many guitar players, from basement strummers to pro and working bands, Bergquist said that he realized that there was not only a market for a quality guitar line in that particular price zone, but a real need as well. "With Raven, we'd used a great Korean builder" he said. "Their build quality, 'no shortcuts' manufacturing policy and attention to detail was absolutely first rate. My former customers often told me that they wished I'd resurrect the Raven line, but legally that wasn't possible, so last year after much thought, I approached our builder with the blueprint for the new RWG line."

Cardinal Trait Releases Debut Album "You Already Know"

If someone told you there was this great new young band from out in the middle of Oklahoma that you should be listening to, what kind of music would you assume they were talking about? A bit of down-home country? Perhaps some foot-stomping rock and roll? Maybe even a combination of the two? Well, in the case of Cardinal Trait, the latter of these three possibilities would be correct. But that is where the predictability ends with this band, because although these guys might be blending two musical styles that have been around for ages, they somehow manage to put a unique spin on things and create something that is uniquely their own.

Singer and guitarist Aaron Vaughn, lead guitarist Mark Sullivan, and drummer Josh Vaughn put the creation of Cardinal Trait in motion when the three young men found themselves living together and joining forces to write songs in their spare time. The three of them were coming from unique backgrounds and bringing together a diverse batch of influences that included everything from rap to metal to country, but they were surprised to find that their musical collaborations were quite fruitful.

With its debut album, You Already Know, Cardinal Trait is off to a running start. Blending bits and pieces of pop, rock, and country, the band has created an album that is memorable and infectious from start to finish. These are the sort of songs that you only need to hear once before you find yourself humming along for the rest of the day. They really are that good. And when a young band is able to accomplish such a feat on its first attempt, you can't help but wonder what it will be capable of in the future.

Just Offshore Release 8-Track Self-Debut

Whether or not you describe it as Progressive Electronic or Progressive Electronica, Ambient, or New Age Music, one thing is certain: the musical adventure upon which you are about to embark is rich with the ebb and flow of moods, emotions and attitudes that one expects of a truly satisfying and memorable trip.

From the enticing opus, "Ocean Storm", to the frenetic bow of "24-7", the kaleidoscopic visions and imaginative scenery of a stimulating and exotic musical excursion are not out of reach on some far away island. They're Just Offshore.

The 8-song release features a new version of House of The Rising Sun, originally made popular by The Animals. All music on the CD was written, arranged, produced and performed by Russ Mate and was recorded between March and July 2004 at MateMedia and mastered at Natural Sound, both located in Miami, Florida.

As one of the founding members of the seminal punk/metal excursion out of The Bronx known as Cold Sweat, Russ Mate established himself as a drummer during the early days of their run from 1981-1990. In 1992, Russ formed Machine Head -- The Deep Purple Tribute. Also included in the original lineup was guitarist Guy Stevens, who would go on to record and perform with former Hole/Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur in the Black Sabbath tribute group, Hand Of Doom. Machine Head performed many successful shows throughout New York City and New England. Following a number of personnel changes, Russ decided to move on.

In 1995, under the name, Mate, Russ released a single on the Power Voltage label called, "Blue Water", produced by Peter Goldbeck. That summer, Russ produced Neon Fire's final single, the epic "Sir Wendell", in addition to providing the organ and piano tracks. It would be his production masterpiece for 1995 and, by the end of the year, his last effort for a while as a musician and performer, as he focused more on his other enterprises.

Today, Russ Mate is back on the scene and making music again as the creative force behind the innovative and increasingly popular Just Offshore.

The G-Man Supports "iPod Culture" And Calls On Other Recording Artists To Do The Same

They call it iPod culture, personal music mixing, or DJ-for-a-day, and independent recording artist The G-Man is all for it. "There are clubs like Playlist in London where music lovers can bring in their iPods with a 15-minute mix of songs and hear them through a big sound system," G-Man notes. "I think it's a great way for people to hear new music and hope more artists support it."

Jonny Rocket of www.ipod-dj.com, which runs Playlist, says that iPod culture "encourages a sense of diversity in the music-loving audience." Rocket thinks that this new format will help "propel music sales beyond anything ever seen before. And we really like the idea of harnessing a personal technology such as the iPod in a way that transforms it into a collective, social activity such as Playlist," Rocket adds.

G-Man agrees, saying "iPod culture is so good at letting music tracks bounce from listener to listener around the world. The other neat thing is that people choose songs in a wild kind of 'shuffle' format, leading to great juxtapositions of songs. There hasn't been anything like it since the late Tom Donahue created underground radio in the sixties. If you look at Donahue's playlists or hear airchecks from KMPX in San Francisco, you see some extraordinary musical transitions, and that's what iPod culture is bringing back."

CCIA Tells Supreme Court: Copyright Cartel Threatens Innovation

Intellectual Property The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), as part of the High Tech Coalition, filed a friend-of-the-court brief today with the Supreme Court in the copyright case of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc. v. Grokster, LTD, in an effort to deny the entertainment industry veto power over the next generation of consumer and high-tech devices and services.

CCIA, in conjunction with the Consumer Electronics Association and the Home Recording Rights Coalition, filed in support of full affirmance of the Betamax Doctrine. This doctrine of "capable of substantial non-infringing use" stands as the Magna Carta of the Digital Age and of the information technology industry.

CCIA's President and CEO, Ed Black stressed that its members believe that "intellectual property protection is a vital component of the innovation process, but excessive protection can be as harmful as too little. Vigorous competition and interactive innovation, the keys to the success of all technology industries, require a well-balanced system."

As a trade association committed to representing the interests of the technology industry and its customers, CCIA has long promoted a balance between the dynamic flow of information necessary to support innovation and the protection of copyright. Manufacturers of technology products should not be under any obligation, whether legislative or judicial, to design their devices in any particular way.

GetMeMusic.com Launches Charity Album For Crisis In Dafar

UK online CD store Get Me Music has launched a new 'world music' CD entitled Child Alive with all profits being donated to the crisis in Darfur, Sudan. The company has recently partnered with international development charity, Plan to raise funds for children who have been the innocent victims of war in Sudan.

The album consists of 18 original compositions by artists from all over the world each with an "anti- war" theme. The artists have donated these songs and have wavered their rights to any royalties.

A further 1.6 million have fled to urban areas or are living in 129 refugee camps across Darfur, an area the size of France, and over the border in Chad.

"This is a really exciting project for us, the funds raised will help enable over 19,000 displaced children continue with a basic level of education in Northern Dafur. There is a desperate need for temporary classrooms, qualified teachers, textbooks and recreational materials and we're really thankful to Getmemusic and the Child Alive CD for helping to make this possible," commented Ruth Baker, Corporate Marketing Officer.

CDT Calls For FTC Action Against Deceptive Download Sites

In a complaint to be filed, the Center for Democracy & Technology called on the Federal Trade Commission to take action against websites deceptively claiming to offer "100% Legal" music and video downloads.

In the complaint, CDT names two sites‹Mp3DownloadCity.com and MyMusicInc.com‹that claim to offer legal downloads of music and videos in exchange for a subscription fee. In fact, the sites merely point users to free file-sharing software and provide instructions on its use to download unlicensed popular works. CDT's complaint states that these offers are clearly deceptive and therefore a violation of federal law.

A third website, Mp3DownloadHQ.com, agreed on Monday to remove claims to be "100% legal" from its website in response to a letter from CDT. A company called Active Publishing owns the site, along with several others that redirect users to the same location (e.g. MusicNirvana.com, MovieDownloadHQ.com, Mp3-DownloadHQ.com). CDT is reviewing the changes and awaiting a response on whether the changes will apply to all Active Publishing websites and advertising to determine whether to proceed with a complaint against the company.

"We want to see the marketplace for content flourish online," said CDT president Jerry Berman "In order to sustain businesses offering legal downloads, protect the free flow of information online, and avoid broader anti-piracy measures that could harm the Internet itself, we have to go after bad behavior like these deceptive offers."

CDT's complaint explains how "users are led to believe that they are purchasing a license to download and use songs and movies‹much like they would on a licensed subscription service like Rhapsody or the new Napster. In fact, users are provided no such license, and if they follow the sites' explicit invitations to download 'movies still in theatres' or music by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, they may face severe legal liability."

Sonic Solutions, the leader in digital media software, announced today that it has received official certification as a provider of LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology, which will feature in its complete line of consumer digital media software including Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 and Sonic RecordNow. The LightScribe-supported software, which Sonic developed in conjunction with LightScribe, allows consumers to create personalized, professional-quality CD and DVD labels that are laser-etched directly on discs in a few clicks. The capabilities are available today in RecordNow shipping worldwide on HP consumer PCs, including systems featuring the first LightScribe-enabled optical disc drives.

"Sonic's products are directly responsible for the creation of millions of discs each year, and so we are delighted that Sonic has integrated LightScribe technology into its award-winning software line," said Kent Henscheid, marketing manager for LightScribe. Talent Clearing House Relieves Administrative Burden For Ringtone Providers

Talent Clearing House announced today that it has customized its royalty administration services for companies distributing, or directly selling ringtones to the mobile phone market. Ringtone sales generate mechanical royalties that must be paid to the entity or person owning the rights to songs, and in some cases to the performers of the song from which the ringtone has been taken. These royalties, combined with the administration of tracking, reporting and initiating payments can limit the profit margin on ringtones, which are gaining increasing popularity in the wireless consumer market.

By creating a service specifically for this market, Talent Clearing House enables companies to strike quickly at this opportunity by handling all of the required back-office calculation, reporting and payment initiation. "We have the automation, infrastructure and experience to provide an end-to-end solution to meet the obligations of companies providing ringtones. This means such companies can concentrate on the technology and marketing of their ringtones, which is where their strengths are, and their efforts and resources should remain focused," said Paul Barretta, Founder and President of Talent Clearing House.

300 Members Sign Up For Instatone Do-It-Yourself Radio In One Month

Today was a good day for radio around the world, despite the ever-homogeneous amount of 'the same old thing' on your typical Top 40 station. Instatone, the first DIYer community radio, today announced a surprising popularity to its underground internet radio station that went live 30 days ago. It recruited nearly 300 contributors without even trying.

"It must have filled a void on the already-crowded social networking scene by providing a cozy stage for those that are new to songwriting but want to try their luck on the radio anyway, in front of hundreds of other complete strangers," said Aaron Cohen, founder, Instatone. "I won't be surprised if the next Beck gets found not on MySpace or Garageband.com but on Instatone. That's just how these things happen."

Instatone Radio caters to those who have recently started working with Apple Computer's Garageband Software and other easy-to-use music recording computer programs and inexpensive gear.

But unlike most underground or student radios, Instatone's format adheres to a Top 40 format, where the most popular songs get played more often. Cohen insists that there is nothing wrong with a Top 40, that it encourages more demo submissions and interaction with the site. The site is specially designed so that the higher the song's overall rating the more it gets played, and vice verse.
